Some of our relatives from my father’s side have been suffering from diabetes, and one of my aunts even died because of this. I have also learned years ago that I have hypoglycemia. Does this mean that I am at risk from, or worse already suffering diabetes?

Thank your for visiting our website.
Having hypoglycemia does not always mean that a person has or will develop diabetes as those are two distinct health situations - hypoglycemia occurs when blood sugar ranges are too low, while diabetes arises when they may be excessively high due to the body’s incapability to produce insulin or use it effectively. However, hypoglycemia may occur as a side effect among individuals with diabetes, specifically those who regularly take insulin. In general, having problems associated with low blood sugar does not indicate diabetes nor suggest a particularly greater risk for diabetes. But occasionally there might be a connection in the underlying mechanisms of the two and it is best to confirm this with a doctor.
